Many people become concerned when they notice changes in their skin tone. When women are in their early 30s, for example, they will usually begin to notice this, according to dermatologists. While there are a number of reasons for these changes, the four major ones are caused by acne scarring, hormones, hyper-pigmentation, and sun spots.
Acne Scarring
By the time people are in their mid-teens, 40% will already have acne or acne scarring. While people generally associate acne with adolescence, adults in their 20s and older can also develop this skin condition. The American Osteopathic College of Dermatology reports that it is caused by a combination of issues.
In adolescence, for example, hormone levels rise. As a result, the skin’s oil glands can become enlarged or overactive and subsequently blocked with keratin, which is a protein contained within skin. The normal bacteria that live on the skin can become trapped within these areas. When this occurs, the bacteria will obviously multiply, which causes inflammation and irritation.
Hormones
In addition to being a factor in causing acne, hormones also affect women’s skin tone when they’re pregnant. Data shows that roughly 50% to 70% of women experience uneven skin tone during this time period.
Hyper-Pigmentation
According to the American Osteopathic College of Dermatology, there are different forms of hyper-pigmentation. Basically, this occurs when someone has an excess of melanin, and darker skin patches of skin appear. Age spots, which are also referred to as liver spots, are a common form of hyper-pigmentation. Physicians refer to these as solar lentigines, which are caused by sun damage. In addition to being located on the face and hands, they can also appear on other areas of the body that are exposed to the sun on a regular basis.
Sun Spots
The Skin Cancer Foundation claims that over 90% of the typical signs of skin aging are due to exposure to the sun. This is just one of the reasons why using sun protection is so important. While people may begin to notice sunspots appearing on their skin during their 20s, they often become more noticeable when people are in their 30s and 40s.
Skincare Products
There are a variety of anti-aging skincare products that can address the issues mentioned above. Dark marks, for example, can be treated with skin bleach. Given the popularity of natural and/or organic products, natural facial skin lightening products such as skin bleach are available. In addition to skin bleach, there are other natural skin lightening products available.
The Importance of Visiting a Dermatologist
Rather than hoping these issues disappear on their own, it is important to visit a dermatologist for an evaluation and professional advice.
